Resolution Number: A024

Subject: Declaration of Principles - Membership of National Indigenous Anglican Bishop in General Synod

Moved by: Archdeacon Larry Beardy from the Diocese of Keewatin

Seconded By:

Note: The mover and the seconder must be members of the General Synod and be present in the House when the resolution is before the synod for debate.

BE IT RESOLVED:

That first reading be given to the Resolution that section 3 b) of the Declaration of Principles be amended by adding a new clause vii) as follows:

vii) the National Indigenous Anglican Bishop.

EXPLANATORY NOTE/BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Section 3 b) of the Declaration of Principles defines the membership of the Order of Bishops in the General Synod. As the position of National Indigenous Anglican Bishop is new, it is necessary to amend that section to make that bishop a member of General Synod. The amendment must be adopted by two-thirds majorities in each Order at two successive sessions of the General Synod. Assuming that happens, in 2010 a companion amendment to the corresponding section of the Constitution will be proposed - it can be passed at one session. Following first approval by General Synod the amendment must be referred to all diocesan and provincial synods for consideration.
