Resolution A078 Marriage Canon - Notice of Intended Marriage This resolution was defeated. moved by: Bishop Barry Hollowell from the Diocese of Calgary Note: The mover and the seconder must be members of the General Synod and be present in the House when the resolution is before the synod for debate. BE IT RESOLVED: That first reading be given to the resolution That Canon XXI be amended by striking out the number "60" in Part I, Section 1, and substituting therefor the number "30". EXPLANATORY NOTE/BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Section 1 of Canon XXI says it is the duty of those intending to marry to give notice to the minister at least 60 days before the day proposed for the wedding. The rubric in the Book of Alternative Services (page 526) calls for 30 days notice. In the interest of consistency, the Marriage Canon Task Force has recommended that section 1 of the Canon be amended to require 30 days notice.
