Resolutions Pertaining To Full Communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada


Algoma

The Synod of the Diocese of Algoma, meeting in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, May 13-15, 1999 passed the following resolution:

  1. That this Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration.)



Athabasca

The Synod of the Diocese of Athabasca meeting in Grand Prairie, Alberta, October 1999, passed the following resolution:


  1. That this Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration); and

  2. that the Constitution and Canons Committee be directed to prepare such amendments to the constitution and Canons of the Diocese as may be necessary to give effect to the Declaration.


Brandon

The Synod of the Diocese of Brandon meeting in Brandon, Manitoba,

October 19-21, 2000 passed the following resolution:


Be it resolved that this Synod of the Diocese of Brandon approved in principle the declaration of Full Communion Between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Anglican Church in Canada, namely "Called to Full Communion: The Waterloo Statement."


British Columbia

The Synod of the Diocese of British Columbia held in November 1999, passed the following resolution:


That this Synod of the Diocese of British Columbia endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada (The Waterloo Declaration).


Calgary

The 64th Synod of the Diocese of Calgary held in November 2000 gave passed the following resolution:


That this Synod of the Diocese of Calgary endorse the Draft Declaration of Full

Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration)


Cariboo

The following motion was carried at the 46th Synod of The Diocese of Cariboo held October 13-15, 2000 at Quesnel, B.C.

 

WHEREAS, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) National Convention and the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada are to meet simultaneously in Waterloo in 2001;

 

AND WHEREAS, the terms of full communion between our two churches are expected to be approved on the Waterloo Declaration, a result of years of consultations between our churches;

 

AND WHEREAS, full communion between our churches will be mutually beneficial and will contribute to the unity of the church catholic, which is the Body of Christ;

 

BE IT RESOLVED that

this Synod supports full communion between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada and anticipates its declaration in July 2001 with great enthusiasm.


Huron

The 1999 Synod of the Diocese of Huron, passed the following resolution:


Resolved that this Synod of the Diocese of Huron rejoices in the substantial progress accomplished to date in developing mutual recognition and cooperation Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, and commends in principle the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between The Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.


Moosonee

The Synod of the Diocese of Moosonee meeting in Kapaskasing, Ontario, May 21-30, 1999 passed the following resolution:


That this Synod endorse Called to Full Communion (The Waterloo Declaration) - Draft June 23, 1997 Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC).


New Westminster

The Synod of the Diocese of New Westminster held in May 1999 passed the following resolution

  1. this Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration);

  2. the Constitution and Canons Committee be directed to prepare such amendments to the constitution and canons of the diocese/Synod as may be necessary to give effect to the Declaration.


Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island

The Synod of the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island meeting May 13-15, 1999 passed the following resolution:


  1. This Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) (The Waterloo Declaration).

  2. the Constitution and Canons Committee be directed to prepare such amendments to the constitution and canons of Synod as may be necessary to give effect to the Declaration.


Ontario

The Synod of the Diocese of Ontario meeting in October 2000 passed the following resolution:


That this Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration).


Qu'Appelle

The Synod of the Diocese of Qu'Appelle meeting March 12-14, 1999 passed the following resolution:


Be it resolved:

  1. that this Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration)

  2. that the Constitution and Canons Committee (or Lutheran equivalent) be directed to prepare such amendments to the constitution and canons of the diocese/synod as may be necessary to give effect to the Declaration.


Quebec

The Synod of the Diocese of Quebec passed the following resolution:


That the Diocesan Synod approve in principle the Waterloo Declaration and that this approval be conveyed to the Ecumenical Office in Toronto.


Rupert's Land

The Synod of the Diocese of Rupert's Land, meeting in Winnipeg, in October 2000, passed the following resolution:


RESOLVED THAT

  1. this Synod send a memorial to General Synod 2001 indicating our support of the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (the Waterloo Declaration)

  2. and where applicable, between now and July 2001, each diocesan committee and each parish consider how best to carry out the Waterloo Declaration's commitment "to encourage regular consultation and collaboration among members of our churches at all levels", and that

  3. if the Declaration of Full Communion is adopted by General Synod 2001, the Board of Canons and Rules of Order of the Diocese of Rupert's Land be requested to prepare such amendments to the Diocesan Constitution and Canons as may be necessary to give effect to the Declaration.


Saskatchewan

That this Synod of the Diocese of Saskatchewan affirm and commend the intent of the Waterloo Declaration, but requests that provision be made for more time and expanded discussion on the issues raised by the document, particularly the issues of order of ministry and apostolic succession.


Western Newfoundland

The Synod of the Diocese of Western Newfoundland, meeting October 12-15, passed the following resolution:

Be it resolved:

  1. that this Synod endorse the Draft Declaration of Full Communion Between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (The Waterloo Declaration);

  2. that the Constitution and Canons Committee be directed to prepare such amendments to the constitution and canons of the diocese/synod as may be necessary to give effect to the Declaration; and

  3. that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to General Synod/Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada National Office.


Yukon

That this Synod supports in principle the move to full communion between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada, based upon the Waterloo Declaration.
