A message from the Primate on the recent floods in Alberta

FLOODS IN ALBERA

We have been reminded once again of the power of natural forces by the striking images on television of the floods in Alberta and in the city of Calgary.  The result is the trauma and destruction that descends on those who must abandon their homes, and then later return to survey the damage and begin the long struggle to re-establish their lives in a new context.

Anglicans across the country will join me in holding the victims of this flooding in our prayers.  May God uphold them during this time of trial.  We also offer our support to Bishops Hollowell and Matthews and the clergy of the Dioceses of Calgary and Edmonton as they minister to members of their flocks who find themselves in need, and in disarray because of the power of water.

The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund is monitoring the situation and will respond as appropriate.

Andrew S. Hutchison

Archbishop and Primate
