EXPLANATORY NOTE/BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Section 3 b) of the Declaration of Principles defines the membership of the Order of Bishops in the General Synod. As the position of National Indigenous Anglican Bishop is new, it is necessary to amend that section to make that bishop a member of General Synod. The amendment was given first reading by the General Synod in 2007 and was referred for consideration to all diocesan and provincial synods. If this resolution is passed, a companion amendment to the corresponding section of the Constitution will be proposed.
Members of Synod will note that Resolution GWG-1 will, if passed at two sessions, remove this provision from the Declaration of Principles. The companion provision will, however, remain in the Constitution.
PROCEDURE REQUIRED FOR ADOPTION:
The resolution must be passed by two-thirds majorities in each Order at this session of the General Synod.
